Sarah Edwards is the President of Eunomia Research & Consulting and has over 30 years experience in the waste and recycling sector. Eunomia is an international sustainability consultancy that provides clients with solutions that support a circular economy, protect the natural environment and reduce climate change and pollution. Her experience includes designing, implementing, and managing recycling collections services for municipalities, project managing the development of recycling and organics treatment infrastructure, and most recently supporting the public and private sector make informed, data driven decisions on circular economy policy including Extended Producer Responsibility, chemical recycling, labelling, recycled content and environmental taxes.
Sarahs’ team has completed four packaging needs assessments for Colorado, Maryland and two in California covering collection, processing and end market development for packaging plus one specific to source reduction focused on reduced packaging waste by 25% through reuse, refill and other measures by 2032. Her team has also carried out extensive work to understand how EPR and Deposit Return Systems can work in parallel to maximize environmental outcomes and create local jobs. Eunomia’s work in North America builds on over 23 years of advising the European Commission on policy.
Eunomias experience in modeling complex systems with varying levels of data is demonstrated through its 50 States of Recycling report. The report, first published in 2020 using 2018 data, was updated in 2023 using 2021 data and calculate the recycling rate of different single use packaging formats in each and every state.
